Reclaim the public space

In August 2020, I witnessed for the thousandth time cultural appropriation such as Berber patterns in stores like Zara, Mango, H&M, etc. After having a discussion where I realized that we wear our clothes only as pajamas, and think twice before going out in the Western world with them, I realized that there was a problem. They shouldn’t be pajamas as much as they shouldn’t only be in museums, art galleries, or even in classist and elitist fashion shows. They shouldn’t be defined as unprofessional. With this idea of photos in mind, I wrote in September 2020 in my notes « Reclaiming ». Our clothes belong to us, to the public space, and to our comfort. They belong to the streets, at the bakery shop, at a successful job interview. They belong to us and that means they belong to every public space, where our ancestry can thrive through us.

Maybe my body won’t be there anymore. My shadow, clothes, rights, everything could be taken away from me as it has been done before.
Reclaiming while finding the right balance. Reclaiming without belittling or gentrifying. ⚖️
